American Multimedia Services exclusively utilizes Windows Media Technologies to create both our Internet-ready ClearStream® and ClearCard® CD-ROM / PDA / memory stick multimedia files.  This provides quality worldwide multimedia support, enabling parallel presentation from any existing website, particularly useful where web space and / or bandwidth is at a premium.  The final product size and quality depends upon several factors such as movement in the scene, lighting conditions, mono vs stereo soundtrack, professional vs consumer grade video sources and transports, file encoding rates, the type of V-Box used, etc.

Abstract

First, an overall note on networked content delivery: It is a fact that, as fast as they may be, no network is instantaneous - there is an inherent latency that causes varying degrees of delay.  To overcome this latency, our ClearStream® technology employs a buffering technique to deliver a consistent and level data stream.  Connection speed and the delivery method are the two factors that determine the amount of buffering time.  To fully enjoy a video media file, we suggest that you give your connection source the time it needs to totally complete the buffering process.

Two major delivery methods exist for streaming multimedia content over a network or the Web: a standard Web server and a standalone media server.  Each has its pros and cons:

Embedded Web Delivery - Pros:

The Web server method offers the advantages of not only utilizing existing hardware infrastructures but being able to pass directly through firewalls for delivery to the client without any intervention of the I.T. department for setup, and is therefore ideal for simple and straightforward content delivery.  Moreover, web service delivery is ultimately transparent to the connection speed of the client - since Web content delivery is in fact a download situation, any size multimedia file can eventually be delivered to any client.  with ClearStream®, ANY size mulitmedia file can be delivered to any client - it's just a matter of time.

Embedded Web Delivery - Cons:

Since multimedia is among the highest in demands of network data traffic, one must consider the nature of the web server itself, its capacities, and all other ancillary demands placed on it (although current technologies and services are such that this is becoming less of an issue everyday).  Moreover, the Web content delivery method cannot guarantee that the media will not be intercepted and permanently retained by the client (although the ClearStream® media by default is set to NOT be retained when the client closes the Web page currently delivering the content).

Media Server Delivery - Pros:

The Media server method is more efficient and flexible, and can provide a better client experience.  The multimedia streams can have varying levels of security, can include scripting control for included Web page referrals and can enjoy an increased interactivity and report detailing, as the server and client stay in close contact.  Streaming media servers also provide for an expanded set of transparent computer protocols specifically designed to allow higher bandwidth client connections for better quality video without the hassle of "bottlenecking" potentially experienced by Web server delivery.

Media Server Delivery - Cons:

There is the need for additional capital equipment and / or external farmed-out services.  The differing levels of I.T. intervention will depend upon the level of the clients' goals.

Applications

AMS ClearStream® multimedia provides audio and video media companies the ideal solution for the highest quality media-per-byte storage available; it is a fresh venue to run and re-run existing programs and commercials with up to full-quality audio and up to a full 30 frames-per-second, perfect-sync video content.  Up to dozens of consecutive hours of video content per file can be realized, and up to hundreds of hours of audio content per file as well.  Content delivery can be by Internet, CD-ROM, PAD, memory stick or all of the above.

Video Capabilities

With up to a 720 x 480 window size, the AMS ClearStream® video format is ideal for retaining useable PC desktop area.  Our encoding method delivers true 30 fps fully A / V synchronized content over the entire length of the multimedia file, regardless of format size.  Depending upon the multimedia format chosen, potentially dozens of hours of continuous video can be created.  Of course, A meta-640x480 pixel playback is available for all files as well.  Our video formats are ideal because the amount of video quality per megabyte is superior to other available delivery technologies and thus provides the highest ROI from any given Internet bandwidth allotment.

Variations on video content can also be realized; if the type of content is suitable for 15 frame-per-second delivery, two choices arise.  If the ClearStream® is encoded at the same data rate, then each video frame enjoys twice the clarity.  Conversely, if the 30 frame-per-second video content looks good at a given data rate, then the 15 frame-per-second content may be encoded at half of the original video data rate, thus saving on overall output file size demands.

AMS ClearStream® multimedia can be made compatible with Legacy Windows operating systems having version 6.4 or later of Windows Media Player (this must be specified at the time of order), although systems with Windows Media Player v7.1 and up can enjoy a much more content-rich experience.
